Op-ed hilarity

I'm not being unkind when I say that I didn't know Gail Collins was so funny. I like her writing, I find her thought-provoking, I catch her columns when the headlines catch me, but her subtle humor was not previously known to me.

Now, Maureen Dowd, also a Times op-ed columnist, goes for the funny all the time. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Even when I like a Dowd column, I always feel like Maureen Dowd is primarily in the Maureen Dowd business. (Hey, I probably would be too if I had her job.)

3 Days of the Sotomayor , Collins' column, will, at the very least, make you smile, and it particularly tickles my moderate funny bone - I just love it when a public figure or writer or politician looks first to the left and right before crossing the street ... or making a joke.
Translation: silliness is not partisan.

She has been funnier lately, and I do love her much (much) more than Ms. Dowd ...
