A couple of weeks ago, I took Graham & Annie to Temple, Texas for an appointment at the Scott & White pedi-endo clinic. (We were there to learn about a new insulin protocol - MDI.) The perk for the kids, especially Graham, was a promised visit to the Ronald McDonald house. When Graham was hospitalized in Temple last February, Kyle & Annie stayed at the Ronald McDonald house. Graham was super disappointed that he never got to sleep there!
Since that time (in typical Graham fashion), we've learned lots about the Ronald McDonald house and looked at tons of pictures of RMD houses around the world (courtesy of Google images).
Our visit this particular afternoon wasn't incredibly long, but we toured the whole place, enjoyed the outdoor playground and posed with the various Ronald statues. The best part of the visit was an invitation to the Christmas party. Not only does Santa come, but Ronald McDonald too. Of course we'll be there.
(Say what you want about corporate icons manipulating tiny consumers to buy more McNuggets - there's lots to say on that subject - but the Ronald McDonald houses provide amazing service.)
You may wonder about the Pink Panther doll in the photographs. Graham likes him because Pink Panther is a diabetic.
Seriously.
Our first primer on the subject: Your First Book of Diabetes is illustrated with lots of Pink Panther cartoons, including images of the Pink Panther getting shots, experiencing hypoglycemia and eating healthy food.

Erin,
I feel terribly out of touch since I did not know that Graham was diabetic. I hope everything is going well. We need that round robin letter before our kids graduate from high school! Has Graham seen all of the pink panther cartoons? we got them through netflix and they are a hoot, although the pink panther is apparently also a heavy drinker and smoker.
